Drive traffic to your new Blog

You've just started your new blog. You've realized after posting for a few weeks that you have had no visitors.
Problem is that no one knows the blog exists and it has no importance on the web, to anyone but your self.
What to do? Well you need to do a few things to start making your blog more publized. A few things you can do to start building traffic.

First, setup your google webmaster tool to point to the new site address. This will give you an idea of how your site is being seen on the web by the search engines. You will need to verify your site with the META tag verify key that google gives you.
Submit your new address to the search engines.
Setup google anaylitics now, it will help you break down how traffic is coming in. Where the traffic is coming from, etc.

Second, If you use blogger.com make sure you have your site feed turned on. Burn your feed with www.feedburner.com. This has a bunch of extra cool tool you can use to add a RSS feed subscription to your blog and also a RSS e-mail feed. It also will Ping out your new blog submission.

Third, signup and claim your blog a Technorati.

Fouth, take your blog entries and turn them into articles and post them to the article sites and referrence your blog address in the resource box.

Fifth, Label your posts with the important keywords in each of your blog posts.

Increasing Traffic to your websites.

Increasing website traffic is basically what every website owner is after and one of the largest money making markets on the internet.
  1. You are paying a advertising program to display website ads (Google Adwords, Yahoo Overture, etc), which may be costing more at a CPC (cost per click) then you like.
  2. You are paying a auto generating traffic generator to advertise your site for you. This I feel is a bit shady as most are pop ups - pop unders, send browser exit redirects.
  3. You are using an SEO company to customize your search engine optimization.

If you are interested in high traffic sites and generating quality traffic, it's best to do a few simple things which position your site to get the traffic you are looking for.

  1. Write quality content, unique content. You can optimize your content with SEO software, but sometimes keeping your site more human friendly can keep your site visitors interested in your content and might ever translate into higher goal conversions.
  2. Use Alt tags and Tooltips on all controls.
  3. Use keywords, titles and descriptions that match your page content
  4. Use Webmaster tools to see how the search engines are seeing your site. Fix errors
  5. Add sitemaps or ROR files to your site
  6. Submit your site to as many search engines you can find. ie Google, MSN,Yahoo,Jade,AltaVista,AOL etc.... you can find some free submission sites that will submit to most of the important search engines.
  7. Build some quality link exchanges with sites that closely match your sites content. In the link that you have them post on your site.
  8. Write articles with diffent topic and match the keywords to those topics.

The biggest point i'm trying to make is quality beats quantiy in the long run. Advertisers and Ad campaigns will pay out better on genuine content. Resuable trow-away content in the long run will end up costing you more. If you can find a new application or need or figure out a market trend, your build your high traffic website of returning and quality visitors.
